Why do i keep getting flats?
This may be a pretty dumb question, but whatever, I’m interested in these mechanics. I ride a road bike, and I do too many miles a day – 50-100 almost everyday. Part of my path is a bit rocky, and I have 700c x 25 tires, and I got a flat 2 days ago going up a small bump, and today I got a flat riding 20 on a small rocky surface(but nothing dramatic, I go by there a lot)
I’ve replaced my tubes several times, and I need to know what I can do to really prevent these flats. My tires are pretty worn out, and would getting a new tire fix most of the problems. I also havn’t been able to see how much I infalted them, because all I have is a small handheld pump.
Final questions: Would inflating the tires more reduce the puncture rate, or would harder tubes make it more likely to get flats.
AND: Would getting a new tire also reduce the amount of flats I get?
I think that getting a new tire would prevent a lot more of the punctures. I also think that you should pump up the wheels to its max so that it would reduce the rubbing between the tire and the tube, thus increasing the chances of keeping the tires longer.
LOL ^^ if u want to check how much u pumped into the wheel, just press on the wheel with your palms and see how far it goes down. If it goes down a lot, pump more air into it =]
Another thing might be that the tires have thorns stuck in them, so that whenever u put in a new tube and hit a bump, the thorn might puncture the new tube.
I would suggest you to get a slime tube. here is the link to their web site -> http://www.slime.com/ You could buy slime tubes from REI. They are tubes that reseal themselves with slime whenever the tube is punctured. I personally really like them because they save time and money.
